What happens to the energy released by formation of water during oxidative phosphorylation?

I have read that eletric potential gradient is used by ATP synthase in ATP synthesis. However, I haven't found a mention of what happens to the energy released by the formation of water molecule from proton, oxygen and electron at the end of electron transport chain. So, how is the energy released by formation of H2O utilised??
