Can I use any needle with my turntable?

I was looking up some good needles for scratch DJ's online and I found the 'SHURE M44-7 CARTRIDGE"... The turntables I have are Audio Technica AT-PL 120's using the "ATP-2" cartrdige. Those needles(ATP-2) are Okay but they skip a little bit and are old. If you don't know what the Audio Technica turntables are than they are basically identical to the Technics 1200MK2 but sold for cheaper.
